Born in Tottori in 1974, Uckey began his career as a photographer in 2000. He published his first book of photographs (SEIGENSYA Art Publishing, Inc) in 2003. He began working in Osaka but has been based in Tokyo since 2005.
His works are full of Osaka flavor, with a humor that derives from an uncomfortable feeling about a unique situation or tricky object. Regardless of whether the subject is human or scenic, the essayistic style of his works ensures a neutral temperature (neither enthusiastic nor pessimistic) and remains somewhat detached: a quality which is highly regarded overseas. Uckey has been invited to shows in Köln, Germany and Paris, France, broadening his activities. |
